Corvus Energy to power all hybrid PSVs in the Gulf of Mexico

Richmond, B.C. – February 27, 2018 – Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that it has been selected by SEACOR Marine and Rolls-Royce to provide lithium ion-based energy storage systems (ESS) for 3 new platform supply vessels (PSVs) being fitted with hybrid power systems. The brand-new PSVs were acquired by SEACOSCO, a joint venture between SEACOR and China Cosco Shipping Group (COSCO), and will be retrofitted into hybrid vessels.

As with most hybrid PSVs, typical vessel operations will utilize the batteries to provide spinning reserve during critical vessel operations such as dynamic positioning, as well as to provide support for peak shaving, enabling the diesel engines to operate more efficiently. Utilizing battery power from the Orca ESS will not only reduce the environmental footprint of the offshore operations but will also significantly reduce operational costs, including fuel and engine maintenance.

With these latest project wins, the Corvus Orca ESS will be providing battery power to seven SEACOR hybrid PSVs and 100% of the hybrid PSVs operating in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Corvus is pleased to be an integral part of SEACOR’s growing fleet of hybrid PSVs”, says Halvard Hauso, Senior Vice President of Sales at Corvus Energy. “Tightly integrated with the Rolls-Royce hybrid power solution, the Orca ESS will enable these vessels to achieve significant environmental and energy efficiency benefits.”

As the leading manufacturer of energy storage systems for maritime applications, Corvus continues to lead the industry with 100+ projects utilizing a Corvus ESS, now totaling over 75MWh and 1.5 million operating hours.

In additional news from Corvus. Corvus Energy achieves ISO 14001:2015 certification

Richmond, B.C. – March 5, 2018 – Corvus Energy is pleased to announce that it has achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification for its Environmental Management System and Processes. This recent ISO audit and certification follows a successful audit and re-certification in December 2017 for ISO 9001, a certification Corvus has held for several years. The scope of the ISO 14001 certification includes the environmental aspects of Corvus’ design, manufacturing and service of products that Corvus can either directly control or influence considering the life cycle perspective of lithium-ion based energy storage systems (ESS).

“We are pleased to have achieved ISO 14001:2015 certification for our environmental management systems,” stated Abbas Zenouz, QHSE Manager at Corvus Energy. “Corvus is committed to producing the industry’s leading energy storage systems in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner. This latest certification, when combined with our ISO 9001 certification, ensures we are leading this industry in both product quality and environmental sustainability.”

Zenouz added: “Environmental impact has become an increasingly important consideration for our customers, as local and global environmental issues bring progressively restrictive rules affecting air, water and soil pollution. The Corvus Energy ISO 14001 certification allows Corvus access to markets and customers where consideration of environmental impact is part of the qualification process.”

The purpose of the ISO 14001 standard is to provide organizations with a framework to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions in balance with socioeconomic needs.
