Re: Advice or guidance please

Hey Newbie.. Sorry to join the discussion so late. I entered the field using a 1 year diesel mechanics course at a local college. I paid my own way for my MED's and have been working "self-study" the rest of the way. In order to get your 4ths, you have to have a number of skill requirement...

Re: Engine information

Oh, yeah. One more thing. MAK was recently bought out by Caterpillar.

We are doing a 12000 on one of our main engines this week (16 cyl model). I will pass on any interesting info.

This lead to a myriad of issues, including the fuel pumps getting corroded and one sticking open so th...

Re: Crankshaft Deflection

Hey WartsilaRoadWarrior I wonder what issues you have seen arising from abnormal deflection readings?

Re: The nuts and bolts

Thanks Barbie...can I call you that? My experience has taught me that squishy feeling just before the cap comes off, followed by that squishy feeling in my stomach - the manual does not always give a guideline. I work on smaller engines sometimes and its tricky to get them to the right tightness and...

Re: Fault Finding 2

Great story BP, I'm thinking that maybe the purifier was working just fine despite its operational environment?

Re: Conrod question

Okay, this technology is called fracture splitting and its been around for a while in other fields but only recently adapted for use in the manufacture of connection rods. I found a technical article about it but when I tried to up load it I got a message "The extension pdf is not allowed"...

Thanks Big Pete very through as usual - I'd like to be at that elbow too! I've used Plastigauge but I guess from JK's comments I would have to be an older salt to know the leads method :D

Re: pv fiassco

What model of make/model of engine are we talking about here?

Any chance there could be a small crack in the cylinder liner/ block or head? Also, you mentioned overhauling the exh valve, what about the intake valve?
