Re: Supplier for Compressor?

Thanks, EvenKeel, will keep that in mind when the other one bites the dust. Got the compressor on Monday, installed and test run that night, Tuesday inspection and ... yeah, passed. :D Got it from Gardner Denver, all others would have taken too long to ship here.

Supplier for Compressor?

One of our service compressors was sent out for a rebuilt, but is now found to be beyond repair. Does anyone know a supplier in CDN that has ship compressors in stock? It is a somewhat urgent matter, any tips are much appreciated. The old one, by the way, is an aircooled, 2 cyl Westinghouse/Compair ...

Re: Thermal Imaging

Thanks for the insight , BP, I have a rough idea but just wanted to see what the current status is of TI on ships. I think it is usually best if an expert Thermal Imaging photographer sails with the ship, and then when you are at Sea you can load up each section of the switchboard in turn so that th...

Re: Thermal Imaging

We've used TEG with great results. TEG as in TEG services, the company? Could you elaborate further? What systems did they check? I am asking because one relief C/E on our ship briefly mentioned that, and I am not new to TI (for land based applications) or marine engineering, but need a starting po...

Thermal Imaging

I am wondering if thermal imaging is used at all in marine engineering nowadays? I know a few landbased companies that made TI part of their preventative maintenance program, mainly for electrical panels, transformers, generators but also pumps and diesel engines. It is certainly not used on the shi...

Re: Engine Room Ratings

Hi Dermott03 and bhaven, just checking in to see how you both went with the jobs you where looking for? Any advice or suggestions? Aron I decided it's best to stick with my current employer and start in 2014 as ERR. Right now I am sailing as BWR (Bridge Watch Rating) until the position three decks ...

Re: Steam Windlass

I recently had to answer a question about a steam windlass in a TC exam, the exam sheet was dated 1997! My father quit working on ships in the sixties, he knew a bit about those, but me? Good thing I bought some old english seamanship books, with stuff in it about steamers and sailing vessels, might...

Re: Engine Room Ratings

Thanks for the advice, Martin. I'll keep looking, and I know I can get a position as ERR, but only in summer and only as of 2014. I also found some off-shore outfits that hire ERR, but they require a bunch of courses like helicopter etc. I even had a look at Africa Mercy, but they are docked most of...

Re: Hamburg Sud

Not sure if it's still relevant, but I worked for HaSued, although a few years back. It was one of the best companies I worked for. The second mate put it that way: here is where you are respected as a human being, not a sailor.

Engine Room Ratings

I recently passed my ERR exam and are now heading straight towards my 4th class. I browsed the career pages of Canadian companies, but having a hard time finding out who actually employs ERR on their ships, it is mostly 4th class and up. Is ERR a position that goes through the unions and will not be...
