Re: Cat 3508 JW pressure issues
OK, thanks for all the input. It would appear that Cat put 197deg thermostats in these Engines, prior to rebuild it is speculated that we had 187deg. the Engines don't get hot enough to actually open the thermostats fully, this little to no water is coming from the coolers. this is creating a high t...

Cat 3508 JW pressure issues
Just had 2 3508's rebuilt by Cat. Both engines are boiling over when they are being shut down. The caps are brand new 7PSI from Cat. Jacket water temp is 195 when running. Cat has changed the caps to 14psi and said not to worry this is normal. Anybody else got any experience of this, and doesn't suc...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
Don't know if anybody can corroborate this, but I was told by a reliable source today that Cadets graduating now are exempt to 1st Class, whereas those that did the cadet program earlier are not. If you do not do the math papers in a reasonable time, ie before they scrap them, you will have to retur...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
I am amazed at the amount of " I did it the hard way, you should have to as well" going on in this post!! It is not the point of how you got your licence, it is the point of how it was rescinded. Today, I personally know of several people who have appealed this and managed to retain these ...

Twas the night before Christmas
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the ship Everyone was in bed. No booze to sip When from the engine room there came a big clatter The Chief ran in and said "what the fuck is the matter The engineer pointed up and said, it came from the stack Bent over and farted, and through out...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
Firstly, some people were in the process of writing the exams when the system changed. It is not a case of wanting something for free, it is a case of being told to stop doing that, no need anymore, here's your licence, go get a job. Then 6 months later, give us back your licence, lose your job, go ...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
Spoke to Elizabeth in HQ in Ottawa last night, and my issued licence is now cancelled. As will many others be shortly. This is ridiculous. When I asked how they managed to screw this up so badly she answered "don't know that's what we are trying to figure out". Anybody know a good Class ac...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention
Being one of the people that was affected by this I will weigh in. Whilst I agree that the new rules were not the best changes to the system. I am one who gave up on the old exams, and applied for the new licence. Based on my licence being issued in early Nov I accepted a position as Chief Engineer,...
