Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention

Spoke to Elizabeth in HQ in Ottawa last night, and my issued licence is now cancelled. As will many others be shortly. This is ridiculous. When I asked how they managed to screw this up so badly she answered "don't know that's what we are trying to figure out". Anybody know a good Class ac...

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention

Being one of the people that was affected by this I will weigh in. Whilst I agree that the new rules were not the best changes to the system. I am one who gave up on the old exams, and applied for the new licence. Based on my licence being issued in early Nov I accepted a position as Chief Engineer,...

On top of the low salary, you will have to pay your own travel, and wait 3 months to be paid for travel days. Long hours of work, very limited amount of food on board the vessel. Cook is given $15 per day per man to feed crew.

Seadrill

If you look on INDEED.CA, or Jobsinnl.ca, or many other forums you will see a list of jobs advertised for Seadrill. They are offering good salaries, and benefits, but, does anybody know of anyone actually getting these jobs? It seems they are constantly advertising the same positions, but nobody get...

Re: Crew Shortage

At the end of the day it comes down to money, and benefits. Why is it that the companies with the great compensation, and leave system very rarely are looking for anybody, unless somebody dies, or retires. Whereas bottom of the barrel companies are always advertising. Example: NL Government ferries ...

Shortage of Engineers

I hold a 2nd Class ticket, and live in Newfoundland. I can say in total honesty that I receive on average at least one job offer a month. While these are not all "premium positions" somebody has to fill them for the ships to sail. Also I notice, in local newspapers, and on the internet the...
