Re: Captain Bennett awarded merchant navy medal

Blow merchant Skipper it's called over here J.K.
Personally I'm a stinkpot boy. ( power driven craft that is )
Further on the downside the blowmerchants only ever drank halves.
As you well know us engineers only ever drank pints.
Hope that was always the same over there?

Re: Oil pressure mitsubishi s6r

Seem to remember the oil pressure switch/sender unit is not screwed directly into an oilway in the side of the block but is sat on a bracket bolted onto the side of the engine fed by an armoured flexy hose which is screwed into an adaptor in the block oilway. Normally a three wirer connection so by ...

Re: Oil pressure mitsubishi s6r

Look up the necessary ohms meter readings for that exact sensor and measure it to see if it is within top/ bottom limits. You'll have to heave to if you are a one engine jobby though. Fluctuations sound like possibly the sender / sensor unit as I have always found a worn rear main normally controlli...

Re: Oil pressure mitsubishi s6r

Remove the oil pressure sensor, screw an adaptor fitting with a manual oilpressure gauge attached and read the exact oilpressure throught all load / temp./ rev ranges. In other words bypass sensor/sender/ loom and electronic display gauge. It's called going back in time to how oilpressure used to be...

Dangers of DPF ing

Well here's a new one, Not had this happen before but very embarrassing to say the least. Went out to a genset whose MIL light was on displaying a fault. FCR the system, deleted all stored old codes and ran the plant up. On comes the MIL light again, FCR the system and only one code is now displayed...

Re: $30 million oops

Maybe the US navy did a survey and as not many folk logged the "China's cold " Syndrome they decided to do away with urinals as there were obviously not enough candidates to satisfy the criteria for this age old marine engineering saying? ( well, over there anyway ) . Or is this the start ...

Re: $30 million oops

Despite much research I am still struggling with the causes of this gear cutting manufacturers defect concerning thrust bearings? Being interested in this problem source my investigations are not revealing much at all, understandably perhaps as it's a "security " issue together with obviou...

Re: $30 million oops

Might be a spanner in the works concerning my brain wave. She's steam turbine driving alternators. So hardly any thrust transmitted as apposed to being on shafts. The herring bone double diag. helical gears ( the bull gears, the two large ones ) will of course knock out thrust transmissions to virtu...

Re: $30 million oops

Puzzled as I am concerning the "gear cutting " manufacturing defect on the US Ford Carrier I am struggling to understand how a thrust bearing can in any way shape or form be driven by a train of gears? This was the official reason given out for the thrust bearing failure. Apparently GE in ...

Re: $30 million oops

What's that then, the engine Room? Ha! Bit worried here that the US might be taking our Cock up title away from us concerning our type 45 destroyers ( project Napier ) re their total breakdown in warm waters and having to be towed in ( you had one towed into Canada ) No electric, can't even train th...
