Re: Vickers Hydrox BIO 100 oil

I have seen this being used a lot in the last 10 -15 years just as a stern tube oil. Can't say I have seen any issue caused by this, in most cases the issues existed such as a seal leak, which is what helped to convince the companies to use the very expensive BIO Oil in the First Place. I am not awa...

Re: Dirty/brown/orange colour cooling water

Hi, This is a response I made to someone who had some cooling water issues. Sounds like your case might be different however just in case please see below. We recently had similar on 2 of our fleet vessels. What we found was that both vessel had replaced rubber expansion joints in the last year. The...

Re: Black deposits on fresh water side plate coolers

We recently had similar on 2 of our fleet vessels. What we found was that both vessel had replaced rubber expansion joints in the last year. There is a color coded for these indicating they are made with different materials depending on the application. The new expansion joints we purchased had a ye...

Re: MPR2019 on the horizon, finally

I'm Glad this is getting sorted out, been dragged too long. I do have one area which I am not 100% clear on and was hoping someone on here would be in the same boat so to speak and may be able to shed some light. If a marine superintended/technical manager who has previously under the old MPR attain...

Re: MAN User Group

Well done! " Machine Underperforming Grossly " its a bit of an understatement , but for sure gives a valid representation of the situation. I do see your point about the courses and the value obtained from such , however I did find this MUG conference to be a bit different than what you so...

Re: MAN User Group

Correct there is the issue. There is a 10 micron auto back flush filter in the fuel module and only a 25 micron filter before the engine inlet. Agreed this is crazy. The new filter is an exact copy of the 10 micron filter in the fuel module only it will be installed in the booster circuit before the...

Re: What to Do ? Fire on the ship while in port.

Thanks for the discussion. And remember I never said SJFD, I was speaking in a general term, I am sure they are very good and professional not my intention to single out any one party. Further I guess is it even relevant? what they do or don't do does not make it right to increase the amount of risk...

What to Do ? Fire on the ship while in port.

Good Day all, An interesting topic came up today so I thought I would throw it out for some discussion. What involvement should the ships crew have to fight a fire while the ship is docked in port? Should it be the same as while the vessel is at sea. At sea we risk our lives to fight fires to save o...
