Re: Ship Security Officer or Vessel Personnel with Security Responsibility

I believe that a ship only needs one person with Ship security officer. Usually it is Captain. So for chief I think it may not be necessary if the company has designated captain as ship security officer. However, if the captain did not have that certificate I think it would be possible for chief to ...

Hey there Sidhu Im a Canadian and been working on the great lakes / east coast for 12 years since cadet. Re: Mechanical to Marine Engineering

Hi there Nick. I had an oiler / mechanical assistant who was a civil engineer and last year was credited with all part A exams for their 4th class at transport canada in Quebec. However this was considered a domestic certificate, and not a STCW cert. He got his 4th class now. It means that you must ...

New multiple choice exams

So I have heard from a few people that the exams are being re-vamped and will be going multiple choice style all the way up to first class. I guess the widely varying marking standards across Canada and the outdated questions are why. I suppose that it will save on hours to mark them, good because o...

Re: MPR2019 on the horizon, finally

Important that not only you must go to a cadet program, but it must have been recently because even for seconds that graduated when there was only second class exemptions they do not have any credit for chiefs exams. It won’t be possible to challenge any engineering exams if you have not already com...

Also what training courses are required for an ETO officer. The first ssb that was canceled mentioned a diploma in automation and control or an electrical engineering degree as options that together with a marine medical and standard COP’s would meet the requirements for an ETO license to be granted...

Re: MPR2019 on the horizon, finally

This is pretty much the same as what the uk is doing. Just unclear to me what exactly is required for second class to get chief. If there’s is only level one and two exams will seconds be credited for everything? I guess this is what Mr Bruno Dugay tried to put in with that fast SSB. Too bad it’s re...

Re: A look at how the UK implemented STCW 2010

New Zealand and Australia have also done away with 1st class general and motor engineering knowledge exams. After you pass the general and motor engineering knowledge exams at the "management level" (no more 1st class gen/motor or 2nd class gen/motor) there is only oral exams left. TC's mi...

Re: A look at how the UK implemented STCW 2010

Can you imagine, Canadian licenses could be no longer STCW compliant. It’s like not having refresher training and expecting to sign on internationally. Then anyone working internationally could have their company reject them because they don’t have an internationally accepted license? Port state ins...
