Re: Russian Floating Dock Sinks with Aircraft Carrier onboard!

I was on a dry-dock in Vancouver, and the dock master told me some hair-raising things about the state of it. Been running since seventies yet no dry-docking of the dry dock despite it being made to do so. Patches on patches, plenty of scantling just replaced in small sections - more wastage somewhe...

Re: STCW no longer fit for purpose?

You can't regulate for competence.
You can regulate for how much has been learned which is relevant, but not the entire picture.

Re: Ship procurement hits a snag.

Can't procure a new pistol for the ww2 jobbers we have, barely managed to snag a new helicopter.
F18s flying around with straps on their tails and the Liberals get in promising they'll squash that.

What a mess.

Re: Work in USA

This is a training room question.
You need your American COC, as I believe they don't give a crap about STCW.
Multiple guess exam iirc, contact the licensing branch of the coast guard?

Re: Oil spill by malfunction validated in Canada

To be honest, it's like saying not mentally fit to stand trial is not a valid thing. It is ridiculously abused, but it as a concept is valid. Maybe this is one of those things that needs to have the hammer down on it, just to prevent abuse. I can see it now. Chiefs complaining about spares/technicia...

Tattoo for engineers

If the stereotypical tattoo for deck hands etc is to get a fouled anchor to symbolize the trials and tribulations of sea life, and on uniforms navigation gets anchors whilst engine gets propellers, wouldn't a good tattoo for engineering be a fouled propeller? I was thinking propeller with a leaking ...

Re: "Nanotechnology can cure shipping's sulphur conundrum"

The arrogance and oversimplification of shitlibs never ceases to amaze me. The article mentioned nothing about the process, or even the principles it relies upon. Just lean on "technology" and "nanotech" buzzwords hard enough and it'll be good enough for government grants! Litera...

We want more engineers, Canadian engineers, that's the whole point...whether they immigrate here or are born here, what is the difference? There are plenty of jobs... sorry if I've m...

Re: wages

Wages will decrease as more engineers immigrate in. Hard times for those countries but who cares. Oversupply on labour side, means easier to find someone desperate to work even for lower wage. No amount of union bickering can change it. Eventually the CSA won't even specify that it has to be Canadia...

Canada has become a clown country in so many ways.
Unable to provide basic regulatory, civil services and only able to virtue signal about Trump or remove visa requirements for sketchy countries.

Re: Woman Offshore Organization

Why?
It's as if the industry isn't hurting for jobs already, no need to drag a bunch of newcomers into it just because they're "empowered".
