Re: ERR for BC Ferries in Tsawassen
I've seen a lot of Engineering cadets taking these jobs lately. My advice is to them is not to waste your time. Get your time, use your exemptions and come back with a bigger ticket. You won't learn much there. Get some real world experience then semi-retire there. A note for JK: You will love this....

Re: NTCL
Good to hear that the board has taken action with regards to the management of the last few years. I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the aftermath of the poorly winterized vessel last year and the problems with the 3512s this spring. Wyatt is absolutely right about the maintenance pra...

Re: 2nd Class Mtr Orals
Make sure to read up on the Canada shipping act and know where to find the regulations. They went after me on that stuff for 3rd and 2nd class orals. Knowing the answers to the questions you skipped as JK said is also important. Good luck in there.

Packing material for water cooled prop shafts
I have recently had to repack shafts on a tug with water cooled gland packings. We used some older packing which i believed to be a tallow covered hemp fiber? It was a white fiber tallow coated packing anyway. I tried to reorder the same stuff but was told by ROBCO all tallow coated packing is now b...

Ocean Crewing Network
I was wondering what kind of experience people have had with OCN and the vessels they man. Personally my first call out from them was bad. It was a commercial dragger. I was told all kinds of great things about bonuses and promotions just to get on the vessel. Luckily the vessel was in Vancouver. It...

Re: Engine Room Rating
Jon,
Try the Great Circle Marine website, they advertise for ERAs sometimes. I know a lot of people don't like the SIU but i heard last year there were a lot of call outs and the hall was almost empty in the summer. They could be worth a shot.
Best of luck on the job search.

Re: NTCL
I've worked for NTCL. The experience depends on which part of NTCL you are working for. There is the large western operations and there is eastern operations which runs "ice class" supply vessels. Western operations brings in crews in May for vessel refit and activation with the season end...
