Re: main bearing measuring tool calibration

The measuring tool appears to be a standard depth gauge, so the usual way to test it would be to put it inside a standard test piece, supplied with the gauge, it might just be a length of pipe closed at one end, and I would expect it to read "zero" when fully inserted. I don't have any per...

Re: Advance timing for fuel pump

Delayed fuel injection should not cause Carbon Build up on the air inlet valves. The only way that I can see this happening is if the air inlet valves are still open while fuel is being injected and burnt!! So either the injection timing or the valve timing may be a long way out. I would suggest put...

Re: Advance timing for fuel pump

Hi Rhaipol, welcome to the site. Advancing the fuel pump timing will increase the P.max, but can reduce the power output of the cylinder and damage the engine if the timing is advanced too much. This is because ignition and combustion will happen during the compression stroke, instead of combustion ...

Re: TheNavalArch - Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Calculator

In my experience I would say that calculated measurements are almost always higher than measured ones, the calculation is on the basis that every component in the system is "perfect", and that only happens on the "Test Bed", not at all representative of the real world. The parame...

Re: Taxes

Hi Xhead, as I understand it, what Atlantic says is not strictly true. If for instance you continue to live in Canada but worked for a UK based company you would be covered by the reciprocal Tax agreement between the two Countries, so long as you paid the Tax due in the UK on the earnings in the UK,...

Re: Engine Room Resource management course

Hi Waqas,
I am English, so I can't help you on this, but there is someone from Transport Canada who can and probably will, when he gets round to reading your post.
Merry Xmas.

Re: Taxes

Hi Xhead, Lots of Canadian Masters and other Officers working on UK flag Platform Supply Boats etc in the North Sea. You don't need a UK passport or anything else for Foreigners to come and work here. I know Gulfmark Offshore are looking for people and they have employed Canadians as Masters and Chi...

Re: increasing fuel efficiency of engine

No problem Serguei, I wish to help young Engineers understand Engineering. By Gas Lawn Mower I assume you mean Gas as an abbreviation for Gasoline, North American usage. On this side of the Pon we call the same fuel Petroleum Spirit or Petrol for short. Not Liquid Natural Gas, Butane or something si...

Re: Final Report on the El Faro sinking

Very interesting Video raises several points. Sending Weather information ONLY to the Captain's Office computer is seriously flawed, the Captain has to sleep!!! The Officers of the watch on the Bridge have primary responsibility for the Safe Navigation of the ship, 24/7, including monitoring the wea...

Re: Taxes

Nothing in life is certain, except Death and Taxes, they will get you one way or another, Governments all have one thing in common, they think that they can spend the money we have earned better than we can.

Re: increasing fuel efficiency of engine

Hi Serguei, This is a Marine Engineering website and I don't claim to know much about Road vehicles, I have only worked on Marine Diesel Engines. Petrol Engines are notoriously inefficient even if run on High Octane petrol to enable higher compression ratios and peak pressures to be used. The Peak T...

Re: increasing fuel efficiency of engine

From your first Post: - [ [i]i]"a)The process of the combustion of the mixture begins before the piston arrives at the “top dead point” and it means that the movement of the piston to the ”top dead point” is counteracted by the total pressure: the sum of the degree of the compression, and the i...

Re: increasing fuel efficiency of engine

Serguie you are obviously a keen young Engineer who is looking for good ideas everywhere and trying to put them together, so I congratulate you on being interested in the subject and spending time researching it. Your English is much better than most English peoples foreign Languages and you are obv...
