Canadian Taxes while working Overseas

I worked for a Canadian Company that got a contract to work overseas, which was good. The Country I was in had a foreign worker tax. The company paid this tax. No one knew about this tax, and was surprised when we a letter from the company (explained below). When it was time to do my Canadian Taxes ...

Re: NTCL

Wyatt Are you sure it was the Pat Lyall there? The Pat Lyall has been in Hudson Bay for a few years now, and when that ship was aground the Pat Lyall was still in Hudson Bay. The Pat Lyall is now for sale. I don't think they would take it away from Hudson Bay to Tuk when and if it sales it would be ...

Re: TC Exams

Well I understand that As a navigator that we should know something about the engine room, but why don't engineers know something about the bridge...lol. I would love to see a engineer come plug in 100 waypoints into the GPS for once. It's not like I havn't gone down to the ER and helped unplug sea ...

TC Exams

Well I just want to put it out there and ask people out there, their experience with TC Exams. I know this is a engineer's site and I'm a navigator, so I'll start with the EK2 Exam since its Engineering...lol. Just some of the questions they are asking as a navigator why do I need to know the steps ...

Re: NTCL

As I have stated above, NTCL has opted out the of West Coast Sealift itself. I don't know anything about going through Hay River agian, but I believe that NTCL will use other company's (sub-contractors) ITB and Sea Link, which NTCL has used them in the past for other work, that they may use them agi...

Re: NTCL

Well this is right from Dennis Thorne that it was a unauthorized broker and at one time they hat the NT12000 listed as well (which is funny because they had a new pictures of the barge while it was in Vancouver - July 2010 loaded to head north), but removed that one, but none of the other boats. Any...

Re: NTCL

Hello Wyatt, Yes, I know about that site. But what I've been told is that they are not a authorized broker for NTCL. They where suposed to have those boats removed from that site, but I guess they never did or NTCL decided to use them as well. But the Alex Gordon and Jim Kilabuk are not for sale onl...

Re: NTCL

Wyatt, I don't know where Martin Laundry came from, but his title at NTCL is 'Manager of Business Development' so I don't think he's comes from a "Marine" background. He's on the business side. I have had some dealings with him in the past. He was sent to run Churchill last summer, but did...

Re: NTCL

Just to straighten up some rumours. NTCL has gone through some rough financial difficulties, which you should all know by now. But it looks like they will turn things around, only tale tell will be this up and coming shipping season and how things work out from there. Yes, NTCL did close its Eastern...

Re: NTCL

UPDATE: I've just been told by a fellow co-worker that there is some false information in my last statement. The website previous stated with the vessels for sale apparently is by an unauthorized broker to list those vessels. Through, there are vessels for sale from NTCL but are listed by a differen...

Re: NTCL

Well the "season" has pretty much come to a end, and who knows if this will be the end of NTCL. As for the Eastern Operations, had a slow start due to the fact of the lack of ice offshore Newfoundland kept the two supply boats alongside the dock instead of at sea making money. But the two ...

Re: Who's in command?

Well I can't find anything in the CSA Regulations regarding this. I've been told to that the Chief Engineer takes over if the Master is incapacitated or dies. But this would only be in a limited as a Management Role. The Chief Engineer cannot stand an Navigational Watch or manoeuvre the vessel, nor ...

Seaspan Rumours

Just wondering anyone has heard this rumour or is it true? Seaspan has said that they want to be major players on the West Coast from San Diego to the Arctic. Therefore, that said has anyone heard that Seaspan is looking to purchase NTCL? Since the way that they are bought up SMIT/RivTow. Also, Look...

Re: Domestic Surge Protectors-Not So Good

Just something to add to this topic... One of Atlantic Towing Ltd. vessels just had an Incident involving a domestic powerbar onboard which the powerbar was found smouldering. The situation was brought under control before it could escalate into something more serious. Just a Reminder for all you Sa...
