Re: 8 Tug chief for Saudi Arabia

This job advert is precisely why I encourage all young men to NOT consider a career at sea. - They will toss you away at age just 45. - They expect you to give them 8 months at sea out of every 12. Basically you are giving them your entire life. - Lousy piss poor wage of just $200/day. - You are ass...

Re: Bad experience with Maritime Management Services

Update:
Maritime Management Services is no longer in business. Are we surprised with their lousy attitude ?
But my little company is still thriving.
Being vindicated is always sweet.

Re: Algoma crewing

What I would like to ask the crewing guy, if he has the courage to answer - What are you doing today to train people for tomorrow's requirements ? Answer: Nothing. We expect to steal qualified people from our competition, pay them slightly below a living wage and then have the laws changed such that...

Re: Quality ship operator in Canada?

There used to be dozens of UK manning agents that Canadians could find work through. But now they have all disappeared or they never seem to have any requirements. In my background on VLCC / Aframax tankers, there has not been a vacancy advertised on any of those UK manning sites for at least 8 year...

Re: MED refresher

There are no exceptions to the refresher and nothing TC can do about it because we have to adhere to the new STCW bureaucrats. It is a 4 day course and costs $1400.

Seaspan Containers and TK Shipping - No Canadians working there...

Seaspan Ship Management and TK Shipping both have head offices in Vancouver. No Canadians work there and no Canadians on their ships. Those companies are in canada strictly for the tax breaks. I say both those companies need to be sent packing - no benefit to Canadians having them here.

Seafarer wages in Canada one of the lowest in the world...

I recently had a great opportunity to join a east coast shipping company as Chief Officer. Wage was CDN$102,000 / yr. Not bad. I was a captain for 3 years so promotion prospects were good. But lets look into this wage a little further: Tax and other deductions take away half. That CDN$102,000 is now...
