Re: RCN looking for Engineers
The funny thing is a couple years ago I applied to the RCN. I released from the Navy in 2005 so I figured I was within the 10 year window where if I re enlisted I could bypass basic training, etc. I heard they were desperate for engineers and I thought I might as well rejoin and work towards a pensi...

Re: Atlantic Towing looking for full crew
Well, this is only my personal experience but I left Atlantic Towing because of the NL crewing. I was an Engineer with them for 3 years and did a couple relief trips on the Condor. They needed me to go to Newfoundland and run 110v power and internet cables through their new purchase the RAVEN. The C...

Re: TC 4th Class for McKeil
Have to say, I started working for Mckeil Marine last November. So far the experience has been great. I currently sail on an older tug so Obviously I came on wanting to change and spruce up some things. And for me the office, support I have received has been good. Coming from the Lakes back to a tug...

Re: Overspeed Issues
The first thing I thought was the Governor, sort of a mechanical fighting the electronic signal thing. Until I started to dig a little deeper in the history. Seems since they have gone over to these controllers there have been issues with the Pre lube pumps and pre heat working, false alarms while s...

Re: Overspeed Issues
OK, Just an Update... Turns out it was the controller. After setting the SELCO M2500 back to %115 Over speed the display and CPU confirmed that the setting was saved and applied, but using a Photo Tach I noticed it was Over speeding way too soon. We then decided to pull the main fuses for the Genera...

Overspeed Issues
Hello Everyone... I am having an issue with one of my Generators over speeding on Start up and Load Change. I have 3 x MAK M282 Generators with Woodward UG governors. Doing my monthly Alarm and Shut Down Checks I tried Lowering the over speed Percentage on the SELCO M2500 Digital controller to 101%....

Re: Cabin Inspection
Again, We are not arguing the need for need for the Master to conduct rounds. We all know this is a necessary process. The discussion was if the Master has the right to enter a Private Quarters without the knowledge of that Crew Member who resides there... Even the Master on this vessel admits that ...

Re: Cabin Inspection
I am not arguing the Masters right to search the ship. But the Canadian Marine Act states that any representative of the Canadian Government, ( Captain Via Transport Canada, and Chief in the Captains Absence) Has the authority to search his vessel and private quarters with the assistance of the crew...

Cabin Inspection
Hey Guys, Not really important but I am trying to settle an argument. I am looking at the regulations for Cabin Inspections. Anyone know where I may find them? The discussion is do the Captain have the authority to Search a Cabin without the knowledge of the Seafarer who lives in that Cabin. My Obvi...

Re: Marine Engineer Job
I would like to know a little more about this job if it is still available. Unfortunately I am still in China for a few more days so the internet laws here restrict me from accessing the apply first website... Is there an e mail address?

Re: EMD trainer in Malaysia, short contracts
I know Jolly Jack, and I am proud of my ticket. I worked my way up from Oiler, and built a good working relationship and good reputation with many companies. But truth of the matter is not many places want a fourth anymore... The jobs I get are with companies I have did casual with in the past, or c...

Building in China?
I have been in China for 6 months now working on a New Build Project for my company. Since coming to China I found getting quality tools and supplies difficult with the language barrier and with so many low grade manufacturers over here. But my company dealt with a Ships Chandler Service who I found...
