Re: Query about Lifeboat EK general exam

On my Port State inspections in the winter, ships were detained regularly because the lifeboat engine wouldn't start. Re: Engine Room Rating Exam Questions

I generated the Exams, you should know a little bit about everything. It's more practical than theoretical, so studying won't help much if you haven't actually done the job. If you know your way around ands engine room, you'll have no problems.

On sound trials, the hydrophone people had to reset lower limits several times, because ships passing off Halifax were drowning...

Re: 4th class Maritime Law and Ships Business

This is part of the Oral exam. (see TP2293) You should be aware of IMO Conventions as they apply to shipping (SOLAS, MARPOL etc) and Canadian regulations as applied to health and safety, personnel regs, COLREGS etc. Be VERY aware of the 3 rights under the MOSH Regulations. That's a given on Orals, i...

Re: UK COC TO CANADIAN

As a retired Examiner, (retired as of last July) I would advise you to present a valid STCW Certificate of Competence. If your ticket has expired, you'll get nothing. STCW validated MED Certificates are accepted IF THEY ARE CURRENTLY VALID, ie refreshed in the past 5 years. For 2nd Class you will ne...
