Re: 3D Printing Spare Parts

A couple of comments after briefly looking at your questionnaire: Why is the sex of the respondent necessary? Why is the age necessary? You have left out the shore engineers in your pick list. They are the ones that source equipment. Class approval is required for any equipment. They just approved a...

Re: Engine cannot start

We need a Doxford guy to enlighten us. I remember the story but fuzzy on the details. It must have been an all-nighter over a few pints.

Re: Engine cannot start

I saw an incident report on an engine failure, once upon a time, where it was stated that one of the liners and conrod was missing. I thought it was rather strange at the time... but then again I wasn't privy to the details

Re: Older Ships

Here's a dandy photo. Notice the man on the ladder, sans any PPE, soogieing or painting the accommodations block. There are mats drying on the aft boom.

Older Ships

Merlyn sent me this great photo of his beginning in the industry. Look at that beautiful paddle wheeler in the front berth! From Merlyn: "When I started out era, the ship in the corner was the old up and downer, the start of it all for me. Also our firms paddlers. All gone sadly." Merlyn.j...

Re: Engine cannot start

I've only had non-starting engines twice ( I'm lucky)
One was failed wiring in the panel and the second was we forgot to put the engine pre-heat on coming off the dock.
Good luck in tracking down your problem.

Penlee Lifeboat Disaster

Penlee lifeboat, the Solomon Browne and the Union Star crew were lost off the coast of Cornwall in England 37 years ago. The Union Star was a brand new ship who had lost power due to water contamination of the fuel. The ship negotiation with the salvage tug broke down over the Open Form, then with a...

Re: Russian Floating Dock Sinks with Aircraft Carrier onboard!

Apparently there was a loud snap from the Halifax dock and she went under with all the equipment stored on it. Good thing Davies reopened, those floating docks were the only ones on the east coast that could lift the Louis S St Laurent. She’s too wide or can’t get over the sill of the rest.
