Re: Modern tug design

There is a lot more to " Green Tugs " than is currently advertised. Its like the Prius and the Hummer ? The most environmentally friendly is the Hummer. The best way to provide a tug with better impact, is to make exisiting power trains more efficient. Other wise its just posturing.

Re: The future of the Site

Passiing on the info gained after extensive years at sea is a challenge indeed. I continually get told that having my experience is a valuable asset to my current position, but unfortunately it does not benefit the guys on board. I can understand the frustration of attempting to teach " younger...

Re: Coast Guard positions for already licensed?

Interesting.........I dont think the CCG is vastly different from most shipping companies. Seafarers are the bottom of the totem pole.......and yet without us, ships would not work, and revenue created.....however, there are always those that will put up with being shoved from pillar to post, and so...

Engineering Mentor !!

This is more directed towards the newbies really, but there are a few out there that go to school now and then. I am, able to offer a place to rest your weary head. Since I started working in Vancouver, I have had to acquire a place to live during the week. I rent a 2 bed ground level entry basement...

Re: No more MED C?

I think you will have a hard time getting Transport Canada to accept anything other than a MED D. BCIT in North Van offer that..........I have to take it myself in September. Its $ 172. and only 2 days long, so I doubt it will include any fire fighting.

Re: 2009 May - Nanaimo VIB CIMarE Meeting

Martin.

Although not a member of CIMarE, I have attended several meetings of the Vancouver Branch. I am most interested in attending this visit, as I would like to see what the place has to offer.

I will be coming down from Errington, if anybody wants a lift.

Dave.

Re: Canadian CEC

Honestly I take my hat off to all the staff in Nanaimo. Donna and Brian have kept me up to speed with the way things are progressing. We even had a laugh and a joke over the TC web site !!!! I took my 12 son with me the day I went in to get the forms, and rather than leave and come back over the lun...

Re: Canadian CEC

I am currently going through the process of getting my Canadian First Class, based on my UK Class 1. It is long and drawn out. Fortunately, I am close to a TC office (Nanaimo) and went in and spoke to the examiner. I then spent 2 hours filling out forms, mostly sea time details from my discharge boo...

Re: TC Website

For sure it is not much fun. I have been looking for info on DP barges on inland waters, what sort of manning certifications, a nightmare.
