Re: Canada Transportation Act Review - Report

Okay so long terms, if all Canadian cargo movement on the lakes go tits - all those Seafarers have to go somewhere.

While we don't produce enough seafarers now, if all the lakes get taken up and displace those mariners - we then don't have enough jobs to place all them. Lookin' pretty bleek.

Re: Canada Transportation Act Review - Report

Industry is definitely keeping wages low; for example on the lakes if you don't get your OT hours - you don't make enough money. (OT hours/salary/day rates blah blah is a whole other can of worms though) We currently have 4 schools (BC, MI, Romuski, and Georgian...that all?) pushing numbers out ever...

Re: Canada Transportation Act Review - Report

If international operators gain access to Canada's domestic trade; how are Canadian seafarers going to keep their wages... If there's a 2nd Canadian Registry with foreign flag and foreign crews; essentially, how are Canadian seafarers even going to keep their jobs... Is our clock ticking, are we bas...

Re: The future of Canadian shipping

We sure are important...to make our employers a bunch of profit.

"The current policy of prohibiting access to Canadian domestic operations by foreign-
owned and registered vessels is restrictive and protectionist.

Hrmm...They make it sound like a bad thing... ...

Re: MED refresher

This new regulation is an interesting one. It's expensive enough (for people who's company might not pay) and it's physical enough to be too much of a bother for a number of the 'older' people near retirement to go through. This is going to knock a lot of people out of the game... Wasn't a horrible ...

Re: Atlantic Canada Shuttle Tankers

I have heard good things about TeeKay in the same regard; competitive bids on contracts is how it works, and with a commitment to build new ships for the job, I see no reason why they didn't hire TeeKay. But I'm just saying Canship has been doing a pretty good job and it's a NL based company which i...

Re: Spill Timing

Not too long ago a C/E I was working with wanted to to this for the emerg. Gen (or Fire pump?) and I was really looking forward to seeing it done! But...it was pushed back "we'll do it tomorrow, no the next day...", and then I got off...so I never got to see it (or know if it was actually done.) It ...

Re: Scavenge air and water mist catcher

Okay I'll shoot with a question. ACC plus to clean an air cooler. It recommends dilute ACC with a ratio of water and to flush for 4-6 hours, and here's the hypothetical: The day is over and the flush hadn't been done long enough, so the flushing pump is stopped for the evening. Next morning the flus...

Re: Used air compressor oil- how much white metal is too much?

Manuals I have read from air compressors have said "excessive wear" regarding bearing checks and changes - but exactly what is excessive. And trouble shooting the bearings seems to generally come from compressor noise according to the same manuals. Boss man says box it up, like Merlyn said the 'ol "...
