What makes foreign a real job?
Haha I get your tone, but I'm curious what would make that more appealing?

Re: Suicide and sea

I suffered symptoms of what would now be called Post Traumatic Stress for years. No illusions, It is a tough life at Sea. BP Something else kind of relatable; I'm sure we've all had the close call to almost game over moments doing what we do. Over a year ago I had a 'near miss' alright, if my react...

Re: Suicide and sea

Well said BP. I've stood on the transom and watched the surreal display at night, where the luminescence of the wake seems to entice one more step.....just one, into the warm water..,.,.,. but resisted and turned back. I must admit too I've had the same/similar feeling. Now; not to say it was a sui...

Re: TC 2nd Class needed for ex NTCL operations

Haha yeah fair, that's true too.

Crash course in learning and ingenuity though...I improved my skills more than 10 fold in that 3-4 months rather than, say, the previous 2 years aboard a new SUL Laker.

Killabuck didn't look too bad from the outside when I was in Tuk last fall ha, I wasn't inside though.

If you're single, and looking for an adventure and a story to tell, this is the place to get it for sure haha

Re: TC 2nd Class needed for ex NTCL operations

Yeah, I was thinking that too. A slight disconnect from reality. Incidentally, i have just published my latest blog post with wages standards for Marine Engineers in Canada. http://www.dieselduck.info/blog/ I feel like this should be a separate thread to itself. I imagine there could be a lots of d...

Re: STCW10 (Manila Convention) comes into force Jan 1 2017

Any Kid who started a Cadet Program in 2009, and graduated in 2013 (for example) and has 36 months of sea time as 4th, 3rd and or 2nd (you don't have to go through the ranks any more) is entitled to the highest license there is. They don't even have to do any TC exams other than 4th's (if they stil...

Re: STCW10 (Manila Convention) comes into force Jan 1 2017

Yeah, I finally read the thing carefully. And while the new MPRs and TP8911 aren't written yet, I've got a good idea of what is going to be required and what's going to happen. Once they're finalized and approved, that's when it'll all be in force - yes. You're estimating spring 2018-ish? And until ...

Re: Problem with separator OSD-2 - Westfalia

I've never seen seal #335 be an o-ring, only ever a rectangular ring.
Is everything thoroughly cleaned, no scale build up making things sticky?

Do you have the manual, does it have a design back pressure value?

Any update?

No response? Are you able to walk into the office and speak with them face to face? Go tell them what's what!
