STCW III/3

Can anyone explain exactly what a STCW III/3 engine room certificate is? Does this even exist now? I can not find to much on it. A guy mentioned this to me a few days ago and I had no clue.

Re: Steam Tickets

They say its not the main method of propulsion Even though it is all connected to the same grid. That was a long time ago I checked into that. May try it again soon.

Re: Steam Tickets

Thanks for the replies Sorry Evenkeel about the "no response" quote. Kinda taken the wrong way. What I Ment was there was no response about why the Canadian system has to have a seperate "ticket" for steam and motor. I fully agree that i would also not be comfortable. but the rest of the world is at...

Re: Steam Tickets

Vegman If you go to the "training room" you will see I asked the same question a few days back. No real response from anyone. I have had the same experience where I work. I am the only Canadian Engineer here and the only engineer that would need an actual steam ticket. All other countries (over 12 d...

Steam license?

Can anyone tell me what is needed to write your steam tickets? Can you write a 4th class without having steam time? I am looking on the TC website but cant really find to much on it. If you have a 2nd class motor ticket can you challenge a 3rd class steam? Last but not least is Canada the only Count...

Re: Questions?

wow guys!! Thanks butttt.... I still have a few more "parts" of questions that are kinda stomping me. They are all pretty much the basics but again is there something I am missing and looking over. 1. Thermal efficeincy of a 4 stoke vs 2 stoke. reasons for differences? 2. Advantages and disadvantage...

Re: Questions?

Thanks guys for all the input. Thats what makes this site what it is. Help from all different types of experience that some of us "upcoming" guys will never get to have. Big Pete, yes that is a mistype on my part. I also think that there is not to much insurance issued with bunkering lol. Jollyjack ...

Re: Questions?

Thanks again guys. Looks like my reeds is different then yours. mine is not even close to those pages. As for #1. Seems simple enough but can anyone put down a set procedure as such. My experience is mostly with Diesel electric propulsion and medium speed with gearbox/clutches. The trammel question ...

Re: Questions?

As always thanks for the reply and clarification of some of this. #1. still is jumping over me. I understand what could happen but if it is needed in an emergency what is to be done #8. Reeds Motor EK, Vol 12, p 88?? My reeds motor Vol 12 has a sketch of piston ring profile. Is the revision differen...

Questions?

1.In a straight drive diesel engine, what would you do if a full astern was needed in an emergency when the engine was operated full ahead?

2.How would you fit a trammel for future use to find TDC on a large Engine. 3.Why do some engines have tie bolts and some not. (think I might be ...

Re: 2nd class motor questions

Thanks for the reply

Thats why the question threw me off. Is there a General rule when determining this. The question says "how are they calculated" not how are they calculated for "____ type of engine"

Re: 2nd class motor questions

Thanks So pretty much as simple as it seems. Back to the basics. 4 stroke 720 degs/# cylinders 2 Stroke 360 degs/# cylinders And then of course the firing order is considered to determine which crank is angled when. thought there might have been some top secret underground concept that TC would be l...

Re: International Maritime Licence. STCW Certified ????????????

Wow!! A lot of intersting points. Glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks that way. Just got off the phone with my reliever. I will not say whcih nationality but he has a "highschool" education and he is upgrading exactly like me to a 2nd class III/II license. I was asking about staying ho...
