Re: ME instructor, MI MUN, NFL

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention

Hey! I only work here! It seems that CoCs issued under this Ship Safety Bulletin are not valid. STCW 2010, Manilla, does not have examinations, instead, recognised educational institutions confirm competencies........so if you have $500 and an airline ticket to the far east.....

Re: CoC as per STCW 2010 Manila Convention

Effective today, Ship Safety Bulletin 05/2017, which covers STCW Certification, has been withdrawn and is no longer in effect. Back to MPRs, to get a Chief Engineer Certificate, you'll have to get a First Class.

Re: Marine Advanced First Aid (31 hour course)

Have yu gone through the approval process with TC? The reason I ask is that if you have not, your training will not be recognized. There have been instances in the past where a non-approved "school" has provided training which has not been recognized by Examiners because the school is not ...

Re: Irving looking for Engineering Cadets

Anyone enrolled in a Bachelor's Engineering Degree would be bloody stupid to give it up for a cadet programme. The Canadian CoC will be worthless in a few years.

Re: There's that navy humidity reasoning again

Never been on a warship, obviously. "The hull of warships is typically cold because of the outside ocean temperature, he said." There is a substantial layer of insulation on the hull, at least there was when I did trials on them. The interior of the ships is climate controlled, temperature...

Re: What to Do ? Fire on the ship while in port.

The effect of free surface was demonstrated very well on the Queen Elizabeth in Hong Kong Harbour in the early 70s. She had been bought by a Chinese and renamed "Seawise University", intended to be a floating school. The project ran into financial trouble and 36 fires, on 10 decks, broke o...

Re: Hurricanes

There's the rub! Political will! The actual logistics of getting bits and pieces delivered to various parts of the world is no problem but the thought of somebody paying for it is. There is no profit in saving lives and reconstructing infrastructure, is there? It's a dead loss. After all, it's all a...

Re: New Examination Process

Nope, the Employer, in the Canada Labour Code part II, is the person or persons who direct the work, not the Corporate entity which provides a pay cheque. I have done MOSH inspections at which, after the initial "information meeting", the top 4 have been politely asked to leave while we me...

Re: CG Ship racing

The ships in the "speed limit" zone are tracked on AIS with position and speed recorded every minute. This tells where and when a particular ship was going any given speed. The dots on the track are green under 10 knots and red over it. Atlantic and Quebec regions of TC work very closely i...

Re: Hurricanes

I've often thought that Trinidad would be an excellent spot for a hurricane relief base, it's south of the normal TRS zone, but handy for the island chain stretching north to BVIs and Puerto Rico. West of T&T, the Dutch Antilles, in particular Curacao, is generally south of the usual TRS zone. B...
