Here are some more images of passenger ferries with the Rooster Tail water spray highlighted in the banner. The ferries run between the mainland, Mackinaw Island and Round Island on the Western Lake Huron side of the Strait of Mackinaw

Re: altration in fresh water generator parameters

There are many factors that will ultimately control the output of a FW Generator. The FW Generating Capacity is directly dependent on the amount of available heating an cooling/water vapor condensing capacity within the generator, the capacity of the heat generating source to supply the heat necessa...

Re: European Ship owners boasting of making inroads into Cdn Cabotage

Here is an interesting article about a joint venture between a Canadian Shipping Company (Algoma) and it's European Partner http://splash247.com/algoma-nova-marine-cement-relationship/ What's really interesting is the 2nd last Paragraph of the article and how many Canadians will be employed on the v...

Re: CCG on a hiring spree

That last one looks like they a trolling for a specific person. The guy would have to be 100 years old. You're probably right on both accounts. I can think of a couple of people that could fit the bill but I doubt the bureaucrats would like to see any of them because of the crap they would stir up....

Re: STCW10 (Manila Convention) comes into force Jan 1 2017

Word from Ottawa is that 2nd Class is considered "Management level" for the purposes of STCW Certification, so yes, we did waste time effort and money doing 1st Class. You're probably right but even still I think,(and I've been known to be wrong in my interpretation or misinterpretation o...

Re: Stellar Daisy

if you haven't seen it, there's been a commentary on the loss of the Daisy. There will be no investigation and the families are paid off. The definitive cause will never be known and the shredders have probably been working overtime. Part 1 talks about the Costa Concordia and how one man went to ja...

Re: COC

Where has everyone been? T/C have been giving out those laminated "Legal" size certificates for at least three years or more.
The fun part is finding a binder to hold them. You can't just stuff them in a pocket of a backpack or briefcase with your passport any more

Somber Anniversary

Today is the 25th anniversary of the Westray Coal Mine Explosion when 26 men went to work and never came home again. Here in Canada, as a result of this disaster, laws have been changed giving workers many more rights with respect to workplace safety, but sadly there are still far too many that will...

Re: Something to puzzle over

I was on a couple of vessels with an ICPP system that was installed after the vessel was built and we would shut the system off when the ship went into the Lakes. We were also told by the manufacturer that it would serve no real purpose while in fresh water because the system required salt in the wa...

Re: Fatigue at sea

Seems that they don't "get it" as regards part II of the MPR. "Minimum Manning" regulations deal with safe navigation of a vessel. Mariners on "Safe Manning" documents are required to take a vessel from a departure port to an arrival port, that's all. It does NOT cover...

Re: Stellar Daisy

Very few people at Sea have any understanding of the basics of their job any more, and the continuous pressure from management to have "perfect" maintenance records and freshly painted ships to impress Surveyors, is definitely undermining safety and proper maintenance. I couldn't agree mo...
