Re: Chief Engineer wages

I assume algoma is similar to upper lakes, because they are both managed by the same company (SMT), but I am not 100% sure, so don't quote me on that. I have no experience with degagnes. The chief engineers with upper lakes are not unionized - they represent themselves as a group. I believe the 2 ye...

Re: Chief Engineer wages

Chief engineers with upper lakes make $120k a year, 2 months on, 2 months off. I believe they sign 2 year contracts at a time.

But that is salary, I don't think they get overtime.

Haha, yeah that seems like a dumb thing to complain about eh, given the job.

Most of the guys I work with are old guys who don't want to do deal with it anymore, I guess. Besides, its fishing season and what not.

Hello I just got home as well. 10 ships of the fleet are running 6 and 6 (2 engineers instead of 3) in the engine room. The ship I just got off also had their mates and oilers running 6 and 6. The deckhands were all new and inexperienced. I find that the problem is greatly exaggerated in the summer ...

I have been ashore for just over two years, after spending 17 years at sea working my way from cadet to Chief Engineer. I enjoyed my time at afloat, but the life I saw when I started no longer exists - 31 British people on a VLCC nearly all of whom were good and proud of their job, the food was fan...

Hi.

There are a great set of example questions on the transport canada website.

I will be working on them shortly... if anyone needs solutions (or wants to compare solutions anyway) I can scan my answers as I get them.

Good luck again

I will be writing my Part A Examinations shortly. From what I was told, it is wise to study all the reed's practice examination questions.

Good luck guys. Obviously I wouldn't be able to physically study with you guys, as I am in ontario.
