Re: Crack Arrester Holes

Well JJ and I thought you were a devoted Belzona fan. Shame on you, all that Araldite when Mr Belzona was there for you. Trying to remember a stitch repair done on an old Recip engine when I first started out. I was not directly involved with it but working in the same engine room. Seemed to remembe...

Re: New engine

Yes Chief/ Wingcommander Andrew, but what about this tracking? Which method? Chadwick or The Flag method? Needs sorting.

Re: The most unusual job Beam Ender

The facial expression displayed was my scheming thinking look, I was worried not about the job but about how many bottles of the wine I had been promised to get the truck off the ship in time for next day's sailing I might smash. It makes for serious though smashing full wine bottles you know, espec...

Re: The most unusual job

Just a further thought to the air problem, perhaps anyone bound for the ice or similar might want to take a look in the ER stores before setting sail to make sure that they carry a compression gauge suitable for all their gensets and when it's necessary to convert one/ two cylinders into a compresso...

Re: US Metallic Packing

Can't remember a knife edge arrangement, remember the huge polished brass container with black oil in it feeding the packing. Full time oiler/ greaser carried here. What a stressful job or what. Well remember beating and banging the Weir pumps snifter valves, they used to jerk up, load sniff, wait a...

Re: To Sail No More

The side of the rock you refer to was sheathed with corrugated galvanise iron 8 ft by 4 foot sheeting, deflected the rain into collection channels and thence to a purifier plant. No rain, no water syndrome here all right. Probably this could have been seen from the moonshot in 1969 it was that big. ...

Re: New engine

Having now studied your rotary wing sections in your experiment I am of the opinion that without doubt that they require tracking in order to prevent further resonance and thereby vibration. The Chadwick Kit or the Flag method? Having done both the Flag method is far more exciting versus the strobe ...

Re: The most unusual job

Ref the ship trapped in the ice and no air available. Been a while now chaps and no theory's forth coming or ideas? Compressors U.S. All dead, trapped in the ice and cannot last much longer. Parachute an air bottle in with a big floatations collar? Look in the stores in order to get a Wind Up Spring...
