Re: Hull Cracks

You have two choices, you can strengthen it up at this point and move the next crack to somewhere else or you can try and allow this point to flex, and hope it doesn’t harden and crack.
The crack is a lovely example of how welding effects the metal, and allows a weak spot into the boat.

Re: Hull Cracks

Aluminum welding is a tricky thing, that’s why Airplanes are still riveted.

I notice this is from the bow, was the vessel slamming a lot?

Re: Sacrifical anodes

I think the only reason you would put something like this on the threads is so you can easily replace the anode the next time, I would use some grease of copper slip, I had not heard of Tef Gel before but there web site explains ' Tef-Gel does not electrically insulate hardware.' http://www.tefgel.c...

Re: Conrod question

When we have a problem with these generators now we just lift out the engine and put in on of our 'Spare' engines. then we bring it back to our workshop to recon. The first time this happened the engineer arrived up in the office with the conrod and asked how the fuck this was meant to work. I had t...

Re: Cut Backs

We very rarely have the CPP system on combinator control. I like the engine at it’s operating speed.
Very few ports complain.

Re: Conrod question

It is a small generator engine conrod, around 150kw.

This is a bright new conrod, it comes cast like this, with bolts torqued up and all, you have to 'Brake' the big end in two, hopefully it goes along the line.

Re: Cut Backs

I have tried to explain that we haven’t spent the last 10 years devising ways of wasting money, but the bean counters seem to think there is a lot of inefficiencies crept into the day to day running.

Re: Cut Backs

The powers do not what to spend any money at the moment, regardless of how much it may save in the future.

All our vessels are fairly simple affairs. It is always harder to find savings than on massive complex systems.

Cut Backs

Hi all As everyone here knows the shipping world is suffering the same as all other industries, Boss’s are shouting for ideas to save money. Without laying up ships or laying off crew, I would like to start a thread here for ideas. 1 Traditionally our vessels have had two speeds, full (hell for leat...

Re: Fittings and Threads

Some of the IMPA books have actual size diagrams or pictures, so people can order correctly,

Or it could be the ICCS book.

I only use the Argos catalogue this days..

Re: Piston - may you rest in pieces

From the looks of the top of the crown, I would say all broken parts are dust. all the edges are worn round. Anyway the normal place I find all the bits of an engine are jamed up in a recently fucked turbo.

The top of the crown looks cracked, how are the valve (s) ??

There hit record is being hit by the 'Work to rule' ongoing labour problems in the UK.

Not one to hang around Martin, I was just getting used to the 'old' page.

New one looks great though, I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly enough.

For those of you wishing to copy the idea, the following programs where used.

CAD work was mostly Pro/Engineer 3.0 with a little SolidWorks while the animation was done using Autodesk 3D Studio
