Re: Cadet looking for a little help...

If you are comfortable I would like to see your report (not in this public forum, though). Also, really good leaders and mentors you encounter, that are confident and comfortable with themselves - will allow you to "privately and discretely" question their decisions, actions, and leadershi...

Re: Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) - ship's Fuel For the Future?

Interesting information on the MAN engines. MAN was in my office recently and are also developing technology to convert existing engines over to LNG utilizing existing cylinder entablatures etc......So there is lots of new developments. I would be really interested in talking with someone that has f...

Re: Cadet looking for a little help...

Hi Cadet, I will try and nudge this back to your original question and what you are trying to compare. I think you should stick to apples to apples so that you can make a comparision. Diesel Duck gave you some good examples of commercial practice and also you as of recent saw some of the costs assoc...

Cadet, I wish more of our collegues would weight in here, because it is important for you to keep some things seperate and understand where people comments are coming from. We were all in your shoes, and in less than 10 years from now, you too will be thinking back to this thread and some of the exc...

Re: Cadet looking for a little help...

Good question to spark some interesting debate. This is a really long answer I will try and provide without confusing you with too much details. I really enjoyed reading some of the points of view, and we are all very passionate about what we would "like to do" and what some would deem as ...

Re: Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) - ship's Fuel For the Future?

Re: Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) - ship's Fuel For the Future?

Kenji, Currently the LNG combustion process for large diesel engines is with spark ignition or ignitors to burn the gas/air mixture. There are some large dual fuel engines provided by such engine suppliers as Whartsila and also single fuel (gas) engines supplied by Bergen Diesel in Norway. There is ...

Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) - ship's Fuel For the Future?

I am aware of considerable use of LNG in some passenger vessels in Norway and also increased use of straight gas or duel fuel (LNG and Diesel) around the world primarily in other countries in Europe. There has been some success with new construction and retrofits. I would appreciate any comments any...

Re: Advice needed for amateur in trouble please!

Hi, The inner and outer probably refers to two bearings -"inner" being the one closest to the engine, and "outer" being the one closer to the propeller. For the application you are speaking about I suggest you log on to some of the usual suspects for that size of boat and materia...

Re: Cummins

Hi Larry, That particular engine and model was popular in the logging industry on the Canadian west coast. Most have disappeared now and have been replaced with far more efficient models. I know the CCG R-class Coast Guard Cutters on the west coast (Racer. Ready and Rider), re-powered those engines ...

Re: What do You See?

Hmmmmm, I see a doubler plate on the tanktop running along what is probably a longitudinal (that is bad)....but wait, also its weld is sharing the same dog doo doo weld of one of the vent pipes (that is bad). There is no reinforced plate in way of the tanktop where the vent pipes pass through, also....
