Re: Cut Backs

I was on an Energy Conservation course a couple of years ago. One of the presentors was from the US and did a talk on their program in the US Navy for energy conservation. They run it as a competitive process where the units that have the biggest cut in consumption get to fly the flag and get praise...

Amazing!!
Now, if you were getting the ship ready for sea, I can guarantee a different story and the contamination levels would be proportional to how quickly you had to get it up and running.

No fear of that. Everyone gets stuck on something.
Have you looked at the questions for motor on this site yet? I think you may be studying items that may fall under EKG.

Re: 2nd class GK exam question

No, in the original question, you are answering with the type of steel and the tests done. The test results that you will give, are classification rules. The steel making process question would be different again. Difficult enough to write these exams, I can't imagine doing it if English/French are ...

Re: 2nd class GK exam question

Walker, reread the question. Your answer is for the inspection and tests of a tailshaft in use, however the question being asked is the tests for the materials used in the fabrication of the shaft. Easy mistake to make. For your comment regarding the machining. I am curious, exactly where you are ma...

Re: second class motor questions

If you googled ohmmeter, it talks about kelvin sensing, which I assume is the 2nd method.

And I was taught testing for 2 grounds as part of studying for my certificate. Thought you might be interested, JIC

Resistance is measured by an ohmmeter. You can google that because I am lazy ;).

So do you know how to find 2 grounds?

That is an excellent question and I have moved it into it's own thread so it will not be missed.

(And IMO, the TC website is horrible for clarification of any issue.)

Re: What do You See?

I see flanges cut like this fairly often, which of course doesn't help the strength of the member. But, to make matters worse it is a crooked notch, not a smooth arc. Then you just have the fact that the vent pipe has been fabricated an inch short before the bend, which put it in way of the flange.....
