Re: MPR2019 on the horizon, finally

Well I'm glad it's a must to go to a registered school in order to do the exams, rather than just sea time, apply, and be given a free ticket. And if someone couldn't get through the 6/9 long answer, surely they can get through a multiple choice exam, the answers are already there for ya. So that sh...

Re: Ships Business and Maritime Law

Right on, that's not so bad because that's what you should know for seconds anyway.
At least now it's a formal list of material to clarify what's expected to have a good idea about.

Re: Telephone Cord Stops Main Engine

It didn't say emergency shut down, just shut down.

And the alarm message was: slowdown alarm

This whole thing feels inadequate on many levels lol

Re: wages

Gotcha, yeah it'll be a good idea to come up with a "plan of attack", and then get some more ideas and support. You say it's for peers affected by the SSB, but we were all effected by the debacle... So, while I expressed my opinion about the SSB, I fully support trying to attempt some reso...

Re: wages

Yes, it always puzzle me that we, as a group, fail to communicate our wants and needs in a cohesive way, or even share information here, which would lead us to make better individual choices. I would suggest that this lack of discussion had led to the clusterf**ck that is the new TC license system,...

Re: What to Do ? Fire on the ship while in port.

Yeah, Normally on that ship we were too - full procedure for draining. But having missed Christmas, late for crew change, and the deck hand on watch that was supposed to be doing the draining procedure was going home the next day... To put it simply, he didn't do as comprehensive a job as necessary....

Re: wages

Sounds like CSL. Which will be pretty much exactly the same as algoma cargo ships. The trillium class ships only have Chief, 2nd, 3rd, so the 2/3 do 12 hr days - so consistent OT will make lots of $$. 6 weeks x 6 weeks I believe. The older ones have 2/3/4th engineers I believe still. Self unloaders ...

Re: Transport Canada issues

My dealings with the St.John's examiner's; Stan, I've found reasonable. Santa, I mean Mike M, more often than not I found unreasonable. As if he's looking to fail you, trick you and trip you up. My biggest annoyance is they only offer exams every second week, and take 1.5-2 months at least to correc...

4th class: a training certificate in “Leadership and Teamwork Skill” including engine room resource management training.

Re: wages

On the lakes, I'd say 4th and 3rd class would make less than those numbers unless they're getting 4 hours OT every day.

Probably average accurate for 2nds.

And $650 plus would make sense for chief on a tug or something and of course plus for anything bigger and beyond.
