Re: Welding on crane boom
Hi BP, Thanks for your reply, especially on a Sunday! Just trying to get my powder dry for a Monday morning opening salvo on the crane group and Superintendent! To explain a bit better where I did not before. The new wire guides will be welded to doubler plates, which themselves have to be welded on...

Welding on crane boom
Good day Gents, and Ladies - it's the 21st Century afterall. Looking for some advice, probably looking for Chiefs/ Surveyor/ Superintendent level with this one. I am looking to change wire guides on a knuckle boom crane, on the actual knuckle boom itself. This will involve welding 6 x 150mmx150mm pl...

Re: Wartsila L32 Camshaft Drive Backlash
Cheers Merlyn, nope end float is taken already using the method you mentioned. Don't have the spring set up you mention, sounds like the mechanical overspeed set up on a Bergen KRG though..... There is no vibration damper on the 7 cylinder engines apparently the 7 units makes it considerably less sh...

The manual has no description or explanation at all, just mentions that it should be done and gives tolerances. I have even a...

Re: Newbie saying hello and asking for help!
Hi Martin, Really small world, and how the internet makes it so! I remember the Weaver well, she was a good ship. I remember watching the 'tugs' thinking they were no more than a bathtub with a phone booth atop! The skipper of one of them barely fitted in the wheelhouse. We has a 2500hp bow thruster...

Newbie saying hello and asking for help!
Hi Folks! Newbie on here, been a long time lurker and used Martin's website loads during studying for 2/E and Chief's exams. The reason I knew of it was due to a picture early on in the site's history of Weaver Arrow arriving in Port Alice, BC. It was her first and only (I think) visit there and I w...
