Re: Injector body lapping

Hello Moley. My short answer to the question 'What would say would be the correct procedure for lapping in the injector body seat?' is 'none'. The super is right. This is old school stuff and I have used a and b but neither are acceptable. Service letters from Wartsila and MAN advise against it. Why...

Re: Ball & Kirch Automatic Filter Type: 6.64.1

Go on, I'll give it a go but there will be straw grasping. Hello Md. Jarihul Islam, I've worked on a few B&K's but don't remember seeing this issue. Were all four bolts the same i.e. did they all have the same amount of slack? Was there any sign of fretting between the two parts of the central s...

Re: Alfa Laval S846 HFO Separator problem

Hello Namit. Timer 59 (0-300 secs) determines how much water to put in the bowl for conditioning by filling through SV10 until feedback pressure is sensed. If an alarm is coming then the water flow may be too low or the pressure switch PT4. The setting of Ti59 is reset when you answer 'Yes' to the q...

Re: westfalia Purifier Problem

Hello Amir If the water is real and is not coming from the sump then it must be coming from the operating system, most likely the filling/displacement water. Why is the manual valve only one turn open? It should be fully open. The flow of water to the separator is determined by the supply and the or...

Re: westfalia Purifier Problem

Hello Amir, sorry to hear of your troubles. Please provide more details. Is this ME? How long has it been happening (after overhaul)? Is the water outlet flow too high? Is water filling the sludge tank through the open water outlet valve? If yes, where is the water coming from; the oil or the separa...

Re: Westfaila purifiers alarm

Hello Hisham, can you provide the complete model number? Can you provide any photos? The sms and wms sample is the same. Is there a manifold on top of the separator(sensor block)? The sample is pumped into the manifold, there are two ways out through two solenoid valves (are these V5 and V6? in my m...

Re: Westfaila purifiers alarm

Hello Hisham, thanks for the info. How old is the vessel? Just so we are clear; the sms 'feed' comes up through a hole in the separating disc, through the bowl cover and into the upper centripetal pump, (the sensing liquid pump) it is then pumped through the sensing line back into the main feed inle...

Re: ME Fuel Valves stuck

Thanks for the photos, Jim, I have not seen anything like that before. Be proud you got it out and didn't damage the head or the pocket (I am using the word pocket for the hole in the head where the valve sits). You may need to replace the entire spindle guide as the parts are not interchangeable an...

Re: no sump alarms fitted to auxy gens on cross channel RORO

The Viking Sky recorded 18 low level alarms (on all three engines?) which were acknowledged and "...cleared within a few seconds" This is clearly a sump level maintained too low for the conditions. There were no more alarms triggered between 09:04 and 13:37 which suggests two possibilities...

Re: no sump alarms fitted to auxy gens on cross channel RORO

Hello 3rd I am familiar with the Sulzer ZA(?) which had calibrated dipsticks in the bed plate and no level alarms. The problem with sump level alarms is that they only really work when the vessel is in still water plus, their setting is arbitrary. Where do you set the level, 100, 200, 300mm above th...

Re: ME Fuel Valves stuck

Morning Jim I cannot see any difference with mounting of fuel valves between ME and MC engines i.e. there is nothing special. I have never had to heat them up. Some questions which may be obvious: Are you using the correct tool to remove them D09-43? Are the valves torqued down or do you have spring...

Hello Hisham30, sorry to hear about your troubles with the Westfalia OS..? purifying..? clarifying..? oil..? fuel..? bilge water..? If you have experience of Alfa Laval and Mitsui then you have the answers to fix this problem. Those problems that drive us mental exist in all centrifugal separators a...

Re: Cruise ship precautionary blackout

I have sailed in a few cruise ships but I don't know this one. I would guess she is approx. 50MW 6.6kV diesel-electric. I do not have experience of deliberately blacking out. The only thing I can think of is a problem with the main switchboard, perhaps a generator ACB failed or any ACB on the main b...

Re: Engine cannot start

This does sound like a fuel problem. Presuming there is compression, the engine is reaching ignition speed and the low LO press. is not an issue. Is the fuel supply pressure on the local panel correct (between the blue marks)? crack the connection to the back of the gauge (it's a good idea to do thi...
