What would you hope to learn from watching a purifier self destruct? It is hard enough to keep the instruction manuals clean and readable on a ship, never mind providing a laptop to be used in the purifier room during overhauls. I dont mind the 'Hammer jockeys' working on the purifier, just so long ...

Age should not be a restriction, if you can pass you medical and you want to, them you should be allowed to work at sea. We have had a 78 year old working on our vessels, (I don’t think he got on with his wife). I went onboard one day just before the ship sailed to present him with a Medal, (British...

The max speed of a hull is related to the length of the vessel, that is up to the point before it starts to plain. Max speed of ship = 1.34√LWL (water line in feet) Horsepower = displacement / ((150²/ hullspeed)² The mathematicians out there can play with these old formulas. Sorry about the imperial...

An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, you're an engineer -- you're in the wrong place." So, the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and st...

After having dug to a depth of 10 meters last year, Scottish scientists Found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the Conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago. Not to be outdone by the Scots, in the weeks that followed, English Scien...

My understanding, please correct if you feel I'm wrong

Max rating is the manufactures max loading for that engine, the MCR is the rated power for that engine.
Most engines are run about 10% lower at the continuous service rating or CSR

Slow steaming on a fixed pitch engine can be helped by a few things if you have decided it is a long term change. The injector nozzles can be changed. The turbo charger(s) also. Most engines are designed with an upper and lower power. I have never heard of anyone doing it, the ultimate 'fix' would b...

There is a big meeting in Athens on the 18 and 19 of Sep. on bunkering etc.
For a meger £1720 you will have all the answers to the problem of high cost of fuel.

Or more likely two days worth of unanswered questions.
