$30 million oops

There is just so much wrong here. A thrust bearing not machined correctly and installed, failure in operation. Damages to the propulsion line to the tune of 30 million. A ship out of service. Legal costs. 25% cost overruns. It’s a 4 shafter, so they got 3 bearings correct. The ship was accepted from...

Re: How to Learn to be a Good Junior Engineer

The biggest complaint I’ve heard from CEs is new engineers have no troubleshooting skills. To be able to do it, you need to know and understand the ship systems, how they impact other systems and to be able to read blueprints and manuals. It sounds simple but sometimes tracking down why a piece of e...

LOL. Me? This job needs someone with great political savvy and knowledge. I am the human equivalent of a tank on Main Street. Someone has a great deal of work, organizations aren’t turned around in day.

Joan Keen Howie

I ran into this lady when she was crewing supervisor. She was one of those managers that inspired her staff and they loved her.
Fly high Joan, you were truly spectacular

New USMMA Superintendent sought.

Seriously, why anyone would consider that airforce, army, or land person is suitable for a marine training facility is beyond me. A marine background and knowledge is essential for a marine training facility you would think. So they are looking for a new superintendent. I expect there’s a significan...

Re: MPR2019 on the horizon, finally

multiple choice exams! Trick questions and multiple not quite right answers to pick from. This is to make marking faster. I am so glad I am done with exams. ETA I did some calling around. If you are planning to go through the hawse pipe and challenge the exams, it's not going to happen anymore. You ...

CO has charges dropped

Interesting, the CO has charges dropped. He was on the bridge, yet the watch keepers are responsible for collision. Do they follow bridge watch procedures?

Re: Telephone Cord Stops Main Engine

4 hour course to learn the system. When will companies understand that their senior staff may not be as computer/automation system comfortable as the younger generation? As usual management skates away with a brief nod towards lack of training from TSB. This should have been found during the sea tri...
