Re: Chief Mate Wages Canadian Tankers

Tankers is probably split pay. Mckeil you can probably get straight pay or split pay, not sure. Deganais and algoma it would be pay only on board, but if you have a permanent position I believe they work something out where you get not quite 50% split pay, but they do divide the pay somehow to get y...

Re: NTCL Fails

20 years of terrible management did a number on ntcl... And that number is, I think, about $140 million. They've filed bankruptcy. And I heard there was an auction for everything they have(had?) August 18th, but i didn't hear any results from the auction. Almost all their equipment up north is crap ...

Re: saam smit

JJ, you're talking about rules and regulations and we're talking about West coast operations - the two don't jive heh. I've worked in Vancouver and the place is the wild west, like going back in time from what I've witnessed. Safety was out the window, attitudes were so nonchalant about everything.....

Re: Chief Mate Wages Canadian Tankers

C/O on the tankers should be the higher end of $600/day closer to $700-ish

McKeil probably $525/day or so.

Deganais low $30/hr
Algoma ~$36-37/hr

That's from an almost educated guess/fair idea. I don't know exact though.

Re: ROC-MC

You're on this Web site, are you an engineer? I believe if you have your engineering certification and tanker endorsement, that will supersede a SOTO so maybe check into that and you can have at er. Heh

Re: Water pressure system

Haven't been online in a while. Now that I'm reading your post, I had actually done just that. I basically said to myself I'm going to reset and start from scratch to make sure I've done everything i can to ensure that it SHOULD work haha. So it's been working now consistently since then, I have kep...

Re: Water pressure system

Good eye D, in the pic the check valve isn't seen, it's about 4 feet before the suction valve and seems to be operational, not stuck & stops water. The hydrophore is a smaller one that can be pumped with a bike pump, yup. And that's what I adjusted after the repairs. Yeah I think I'd like to hav...

Re: Water pressure system

Air in the hydrophore - 18psi (set when no water in it) Cut in 20psi Cut out 40psi There are two adjustments: 1) cut in/cut out and 2) cut out. Maybe I'll jump up the cut out a bit, take measurements of original set up and then play around and experiment. (But like I mentioned, the settings are fact...

Water pressure system

Hey everyone, here's probably a simple one. Old water pump (piston pump) blew up so installed a new one. The pressure switch, factory set to 20/40psi, keeps on bouncing and bouncing causing cycling and eventually the breaker trips. Pump is primed, delivers water when running. Before operating I chec...

Re: 2ND Class EK Gen

Well that just makes sense, things you have worked on would certainly be the first questions you'll be attempting. Even though I haven't skinned my knuckles doing a stuffing box I'll still offer any knowledge I think I have, which is always open to harsh criticism - being told your wrong is a great ...

Re: 2ND Class EK Gen

Good to know.
I mean; I wouldn't go into the exams with 'off the top of my head' answers haha, but I'll be sure to include a lot more than that if it comes up during my time for those exams.
