Re: Greasing stern shaft packing gland
Ya when I got back on the boat again, I had a look at where exactly where the grease line was fitted. It's in the middle of the packing.

Re: FIRST ENGINEER – FIRST OR SECOND CLASS MOTOR CERTIFICATE
These positions are most likely Chief Engineer positions on the intermediate class vessels. These positions are not union. They are a management position. You will receive full time work immediately with full benefits. If for some reason you screw up on the job, you will not be protected by the Unio...

Re: Greasing stern shaft packing gland
Thanks,
I had never greased it till another engineer came on the vessel, and he started greasing it every day. Which is why I asked the ?
So the only purpose for that grease fitting is to slow down the water flow while changing packing while still in the water correct?
Curt

Greasing stern shaft packing gland
My question is, How much grease should be pumped into the stern shaft packing gland. The diameter of the shaft is about 14", the packing itself is about 1 1/4" thick. How much grease is too much, and how much is too little? Should it be greased every day? Twice a day? Or once a week? The v...

Re: Third Class Math
I think Transport Canada should revise their syllabus, the exam was mostly algebra. I didn't refresh my memory enough on that subject to be confident enough that I passed. I'll find out soon I guess. In the mean time, time to refresh my memory on all the rules on algebra. Thanks for your help JollyJ...

Writing Third Class exams
Hi,
Has anyone on here recently wrote any exams for 3rd class or 2nd class? I am wondering how exactly they want the answer written. Are they looking for the reeds way of writing, or are they just looking for you to show how you got the answer.
Thanks
Curt.

Re: Third Class Math
Hey Jolly Jack, I've decided not to go for my second class. For me it seems too hard to teach myself. With the reeds books, they obviously have all the info all the way up to 1st class, so when do I stop beating my brain on things I won't be examined on for the 3rd class. I've have the applied math ...

Third Class Math
Hi,
I'm going for my Third Class Motor ticket, and I am wondering if anyone on here can give me some insight to how in depth I need to study for the math exam. I was able to do 15/17 questions that were in the library. I am not a college engineer, so this will all be fresh for me.
Thanks in advance
