Dear Friends,

I have got approved by Transport Canada last week for direct entry to second class engineer (motor) , unlimited. But i am surprised to know that i have to write technical drawing in addition to E.K General and E.K Motor. plus Orals...rest other papers are exempted...i was expecting both General and Motor...but technical drawing was bit surprising... is there any way out to get this paper exempted? anyone here have an idea? ..

I have contacted most provisional power engineering bodies about converting the licence to power engineer
B C told me if i have second class marine from transport Canada , they can let me write 3rd class power, but if I have second class marine from India , they can only let me write 4th class power.. which is disappointing..!!

Alberta ABSA told , they need to review my application to take a decision , they are not sure if they can issue 3rd class certificate with supporting letter from transport Canada approving my credentials for second class marine.

Ontario TSSA said if i have steam experience they might approve for 2nd class power..( and if i am unable to prove my steam experience i have to write exam , i have only sea service testimonials issued from ships i have worked in which mentioned type of boilers i worked... not sure if that enough ) but again not sure if the letter from transport Canada work or I if have to have Transport Canada COC ....

Saskatchewan saftey authority have no Idea what they can do for me... but some hope of getting 3rd class... still waiting reply from their side...and i live in SK !!

so i am thinking of moving to Alberta , and apply to ABSA ...and hope for the best ..!

do you guys have any advise or suggestions? please share... Thanks.

Hi Alex, thank you for the link ..!! which province are you wring the exams?... and how is the exams compared to marine 2nd class motor ?

Hi Sekhar, you really need to have Canadian residency to be started working in Canada...immigration is a long process and it might take few years... upto 3 to 5 years ..if you are looking for shore based job there are few opportunities available but again if you are looking for better money than what you could make from ships it may not worth the hazzle of going through the process of immigration, licence conversion , finding a job etc.... as far as power engineering is concerned all the information i i have so far is from this forum ....if you are already made up your mind and still wanted to come here , i would suggest you to take a 2 year program in power engineering in Alberta. this might help you reduce long waiting of immigration process...wish you good luck :)
b d b are you nagasekhar from Vizag ? and studied class 2 in IME, Nerul ? just wondering :)

Hi,

I am currently holding Indian class 2 coc , looking for ship jobs in Canada , I an aware that a Canadian coc is required to sail in Canadian flag vessel. But my quarry is in Canadian companies with non Canadian flag ships .
I would also tell my purpose of the question , I have heard few ppl in my company say they pay far better than working for Indian Manning.
Thank you in advance.
Regards
