Seaspan generally does not use engineers on the harbour tugs or day boats - Seaspan, Cates; same goes with SMIT Harbour Towage ie Tiger Tugs and Westminster Tugs. They use a modified deckhand to check the oil but the brunt of the work is done by shore based mechanics at their respective bases.

That goes as well for Coast Mountain Bus Company (Translink) who operates the Seabus, they are based on the North Van side and have mechanics service their boats. They use to only hire Third Class, but that was tn years ago, so I am not sure what they do now.
