Thursday evening, 17 January, will be the Branch's first meeting of 2013.

Commander Alex Kooiman, Deputy Director, Submarine Operations Pacific, will be our guest presenter. He will speak on the history, evolution, rationale, objectives, and current state of the Navy's submarine program which is currently in progress. It's an excellent and informative presentation, given by an experienced submariner with real-world perspective and a sense of humor.

Some of us who have heard a similar presentation elsewhere have come away much more impressed with the program than the media would have us be; it will be a most interesting meeting, and all hands are encouraged to attend this enlightening presentation.

As usual, we will meet in Naden's lower wardroom gathering from 1830 onwards, with the meeting starting at 1900.
