This Saturday, in Victoria - Maritime Museum Garage Sale

Post by The Dieselduck »

It's massive....really massive!

On Saturday, April 20th, join us for the Maritime Museum of BC's 10th annual Massive Marine Garage Sale at Ogden Point from 9am to 1pm.

This annual fundraiser in support of the Maritime Museum’s programs and exhibits will feature more than 60 vendors selling a wide range of unique maritime and outdoor items. In addition to treasures to be discovered at each table, a "Pixie” Fairey Marine folding boat will be for sale through a silent auction. These little wooden boats were made in England in the 50s and 60s. A neat feature, the Pixie comes apart for storage on deck and can easily be put back together. It also comes with two removable seats and paddles.

Admission is $5 (children under 12 are free) and parking is free at the warehouse building on Pier A at Ogden Point. Do you have items you would like to donate for the sale? They can be dropped off Saturday morning between 7 and 9am. More information on the garage sale can be found here.

There are many other events coming up at the Maritime Museum. More information can be found below. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 250-385-4222 ext. 105 or email [email protected]. I am always happy to speak with you.

I hope to see you soon at the Museum,

Cassie Holcomb
Membership and Grants Coordinator

PERSEVERANCE: Some Reflections on 50 Years of the Canadian Sea King
May 8, 12 pm
Admission by Donation

A public lecture on the remarkable record of the Canadian Sea King helicopter will be presented by Colonel (Ret’d) John Orr. The Colonel has written the history of the 'first' 50 years of the Canadian Sea King, drawing on official documents and published material as well as more than 70 oral history interviews with those who have supported, maintained and flown this capable helicopter.

The Canadian Sea King saga began in 1963 with the acceptance of the first helicopter by the Royal Canadian Navy, a tale that is still being written. Introduced as an anti-submarine helicopter, the Sea King served in that role throughout the Cold War and then, following the first Gulf War in 1990, was transformed into a flexible surface and sub-surface surveillance aircraft. Admission for this afternoon lecture is by donation.
