Monthly meetings for the Vancouver Island Branch of the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering usually take place on the third Thursday of the month starting at 7PM in the lower lounge of the Naden Naval Officers’ Wardroom near the dockyard entrance in Esquimalt. Members often arrive early to join colleagues for a beverage in the upstairs lounge.

The September meeting however is going to be a little different. The Vancouver Island branch will be joining with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC as a sponsor for a special World Travellers Dinner Event called "Rowboat in a Hurricane" on Thursday September 19 - 6:00 pm 9:00 pm at Officers' Wardroom. Colin and Julie Angus recreate the experience of surviving a hurricane from the confines of a rowboat - highlighting strategies we can all use to deal with adversity and transition. Change and negative setbacks can be an opportunity to alter course and flourish. They show us how to modify our perception so that we use uncertainty and transition as a tool to grow and prosper. Using captivating stories, they help us anticipate and prepare for change, assess risks, and improve our communication during difficult times.

Limited tickets to the event are available. The CIMarE Vancouver Island Branch has 8 tickets available at reduced cost on a first-come first-serve basis for $43.75 after which full price tickets to the event are $55. Check with Ryan Nicoll (email: [email protected]) to see if any CIMarE tickets are left. Full price tickets can be purchased directly from Chelsea Smith at APEG BC: (email: [email protected], phone: 1 604-412-4892).
