2014 Sept - VIB CIMarE Monthly meetings are back!

September Branch Meeting -The first of the fall series of CIMarE Vancouver Island Branch meeting will take place Thursday September 18 at 7 PM in the lower lounge of the Naden Naval Officers' Wardroom near the dockyard entrance, at 1586 Esquimalt Road.
Guests and spouses are always welcome. Members often arrive early to have a beverage with colleagues in the upstairs lounge before the meeting.
Jan Buermans from ASL Environmental will present an overview of the array of oceanographic technology developed and deployed by ASL as well as some of the recent international deployments completed, including operations in the Arctic.
ASL Environmental Sciences is Victoria company with more than 35 years of experience in oceanographic, acoustic, remote sensing and ice research services specializing in Flow Measurement, Numerical Modeling, Wave Measurement & Analysis, Remote Sensing, Sediment Transport and Ice Studies.

October Branch Meeting - Thursday 16 October at 7 PM in the lower lounge of the Naden Naval Officers' Wardroom near the dockyard entrance, at 1586 Esquimalt Road. Mr. Gordon Menard, President of Global Endeavours will be giving a presentation about a very ingenious solution to oil spills, spill prevention, emergency response, spill clean-up and reversal recovery systems. Global Endeavours' product - "Can-Gel" (trademark) provides hydrocarbon containment solutions for oceans, water and land. They have developed a three-part, cost effective method of cleaning bilge water which is can be customized to any bilge needs and operations.

Western Mariner Magazine - If you are a paid up member of the Vancouver Island Branch and do not receive Western Mariner and want to or already get it at work so do not need to, please let me know so I can make changes to the branch subscription.

New Executive Committee Members Needed for 2015-2016 Term - Two positions that will need filling in one year's time are those of Communications Coordinator and Membership Coordinator. Both of these positions require a transition period in order that there is a smooth change-over. The Communications Coordinator looks after the branch newsletter Stand By in Western Mariner so must contact sponsors annually and prepare submissions every two months. The Membership Coordinator keeps the membership list up to date to reflect the contact information on all bonefide members of the branch.
