I can't remember seeing any of these questions in any of the Canadian 4th Class EKG multiple choice questions. The answer to all 4th Class questions is given on the question paper....along with three other possible answers. You just have to choose the right one. There are no essay type questions in 4th Class.

Oh Boy! you want answers for all that? If you don't know, you aren't ready to sit the 4E ticket. You have to go to college and do some serious studying or get the text books and do some studying on your own, unless your shipmates can help you.
If you had been a cadet you would already have covered most of it. It will be no good to you to learn the answers of by heart UNLESS YOU UNDERSTAND HOW AND WHY.

Right, BP, these questions are answered in basic skills and reinforced in the training record book all 4th Class candidates are required to complete to meet STCW standards. I would expect a 1st year Cadet to be able to answer most, if not all of these questions. If you can't answer them now, don't attempt the 4th Class until you can, it's all pretty basic stuff. As a Marine Engineer of some 40-odd years experience, my advice is to get your hands dirty! "Booksmart" engineers are about as much use as a screen door on a submarine and should be banned from any ship, they're dangerous.

Keep in mind there are time penalties for failing exams, know what you are about when attempting Engineering Knowledge at any level. If you've done the job, if you have experience and know what you're doing, you'll pass. If you don't, you shouldn't be writing it.
