SWBD Fire Shutdowns

We are currently drawing up the specs for a new swbd. The vessel has cpp hydraulics as well as the hydraulic packs for the steering gear inside the ER. Any comments regarding if this equipment should be included on the fire stop rail? On the one side we are dealing with hydraulic oil and hoses which wouldn´t last long in an actual engine room fire anyways, but on the other hand if there is a minor fire in the ER and the fire stop is tripped, the boat would be getting tossed around in no time depending on the weather making fire fighting and everything involved that much more difficult.

I would check IEEE, the particular class society for the vessel or other flag state regulations for the specdifics. Soundslike a workboat or fishing vessel if all is in the ER so in many cases these has seperate rules/regulations.

You haven't enough info for any answer.

In Canada you would have to meet TP 127 for swbds and I assume you mean switchboard by that. I assume it is a small boat and you are in Canada, which is a lot of assumptions.

Hi Martin,

Things are going well. More decks being cut out, more shell plating going as well. As for some details regarding the switchboard question, the vessel is Lloyds, just over 500GT. The switchboard manufcturer is dealing with the Lloyds approval process. Its one of my queries to them so we will see what the outcome will be.
