Just to pass on to all of you that have SABBs in their lifeboats.
Parts are darn near impossible to get in N America. I don't know if it is a dealer problem or from the parent company. SABB was bought out this spring by another company.
What I do know is that last year I had to get some parts in, it took 3 months.
Right now I have had a lifeboat sitting ashore, with the engine out of it , since December, waiting for a liner and bearings. We still don't have them.
So, if you only have the one boat and no way of putting more liferafts/boats on to make TC happy, you may consider bringing in some essential parts.

We have had good luck so far with our old Sabb lifeboat engines by having a specialist machine shop fabricate parts as required. In our case however, only simple parts have failed but it might still be feasible to have bearings and liners fabricated. By feasible I mean expensive but cheaper than a new lifeboat engine. Just a thought.

Even if its just to have someone to shout at, it's sometimes an advantage to send off a snotty e-mail to head office, explaning to them the delays, and problems with the local suppliers.
We have in the past sailed without the lifeboat, (freefall), with the use of extra liferafts. (two 20 man throw over, for a crew of 10)
But the flag here has said, it will not happen again, there is no provision in SOLAS for sailing sans lifeboat.
We were forced to consider buying a spare lifeboat complete. (havent yet, but thinking about it.)

I have heard that a flurry of emails, blaming and counter-blaming, are winging their way back and forth across the Atlantic between SABB and the N.America dealer.
I selected about 6 names off the SABB webpage and emailed them all, and told them I would re-engine before I dealt with this again. Must have got their attention.
When SABB was bought out, they must have forcibly retired the only guy who knew were the parts where stored
