Little quiz for you, looking at the two engines depicted why is the Port one been fitted with 9 pencil anodes and the Starboard one only seven? It's all in the photos.

Well from first look there's an extra chunk of machinery stuck to the arse end of the port Engine.

Well that's one way of putting it, elaborate ?

Would it have something to do with the hydraulic pump on the PTO of the Port Engine and a possible cooler for the hydraulic system?

Promote yourself to Extra Chief spot on all round. Its a Super yacht that has a hydraulic Windlass and as you said it carries an extra cooler which takes two anodes, you maybe just able to see it bolted onto the block lower down.

No individual injector pipes here for probing pinkies just the one HP pipe screwed into the head which has a continuous flow through it and thence back to the tank via spill return. Loads of O rings when doing a head gasket change here. Need a pair of sunglasses when working on these. Virtually told you but what make?

I can see a faint hint of Caterpillar Yellow coming through the spray paint job
It also looks like the secondary fuel filter by the fuel system hand priming pump hasn't been changed since the paint job

Must be your day today DW, spot on again, best you do the lottery or something like that over there and be a three times lucky winner. Don't forget me should you win? Reckon you are right re the filter change.

Thanks for the high praise
I would venture to guess that the engine is one of the new "C" series engines, which is basically a truck or "Lorry" engine modified for marine use. I know the 6 cylinder C18 driving a generator will produce over 500kw running at 1800 rpm making it a powerful, all be it noisy, engine

Yes it's a 3126 B one of a pair, they made thousands of them. It's got the separate engine oil pump arrangement because the injectors are separately hydraulically actuated by engine oil which in turn squirts the fuel in apon demand. It's the HEUI system which appears to be superseded for emission reasons by the MEUI which as the M suggests is pushrods operated mechanical arrangement. I have seen some of them genuine common rail now with external piping. Might be worth asking a person who has the C18 model running a genset what the feel is ref pulsating effects which I suspect is different to the HEUI but probably you cannot feel separate pulsing? Because of my name I would think hazarding a guess that could possibly be B P?

Oh I know about the C18 as there is one on the ship I'm working on at present. It replaced a much larger and quieter Daihatsu
One would get quite a shower in lubricating oil if you tried to check the pulses on the injectors considering the they are inside the valve covers

These 3126B engines are pre Acert series and have the internal injectors which will also throw oil everywhere if you run with the rocker box covers off. Haven't worked as yet on the MEUI yet only the HEUI systems . You just reminded me of the old days with internal spill rails and a minor fuel leakage from a banjo copper washer would cause the sump to fill up with LFO and start off with excessive smoke emmission and in severe cases with a turbo engine the thinned out lube oil bypassing the turbo end seals feeding the engine direct with no governor controlling the rpm and a certain recipe for a Conrod out the side jobby.
