High Speed Marine Diesel Engine

Post by Pengze »

Good day!
I was wondering why for a high speed marine diesel engine (1500rpm), they do not have individual temperature sensors for each cylinder unit.
Usually, they have only one main jacketwater and one main exhaust temperature sensors at main common outlet from all cylinders.
Therefore, how are we going to troubleshoot if one particular cylinder unit is having problem & we cannot identify the defective unit.
Any comments & advice will be appreciated.
Thks.

Well that is a pretty broad questions, but you could try isolating fuel to the individual cylinder, see if the noise and or smoke character changes. If you had a hand held laser infrared temp sensor, those are pretty common nowadays, you could tag the individual cylinder exhaust manifold near the head, to get a temp reading.

Something to think about....
