Passed away July 8 in Cape Breton, after a long illness. Visitation at McGillivary Funeral Home on Reserve St, Glacé Bay on Saturday July 9th,14-1600. Service will be immediately afterwards.

Obituary – Brian “Ace” Baillie (CCGC Class of 1969)



According to his LinkedIn profile, his recent experience included:

Retired from: Chief/2nd engineer with Saudi Aramco (McDermott International Inc.) 2009-2016 in the Persian Gulf. “Working as 2nd engineer to get enough time in on a duplex DP Dive Support vessel to become a Saudi Aramco Approved Chief.” Since 1978 held a Canadian First Class (combined) certificate.

Chief Engineer with Secunda Marine Services 1999-2011 (12 years 5 months)

Chief Engineer on drillships with Canadian Marine Drilling Co 1980-1998

Engineering Instructor at CCGC Sydney until about 1980

As he was mine and many others that knew him as instructor as I had or as a Chief Engineer

Ace could be said to be an engineer's engineer. He was never one that was afraid to get his hands, or any other part of him for that matter, dirty in order to get the job done and or pass on a wealth of knowledge on to others.

My everlasting memory is watching him marking exams. He was using his fingers for rough proportions on someone's sketch of a fuel pump. I have no idea who's test it was, but it was fascinating to watch his fist clench after the measurement. I gathered it was a bad sketch lol.

He's up in the duty mess now. Parkinson's is a tough way to go.
