Paul Meating passed away in Calgary Alberta at the age of 71 on Friday Jan 3, 2020.

Paul was a longtime employee of the Canadian Coast Guard, starting out on the old steam up and downers as a watchkeeping engineer, retiring as the Chief Engineer of the CCGS Louis S St-Laurent.
In between the two, he was the onsite project manager for the life extension refits of the CCGS John A MacDonald in Quebec, the CCGS Alert in Marystown NL and the conversion work on the CCGS Louis S St-Laurent when her new bow was installed and the steam plant replaced with diesels. He sailed as Chief Engineer on many of the vessels through the years and when invited to work in the Technical Support office, his reply was unprintable.
He is survived by his brother Robert, and nieces .
RIP Paul, you were both the most infuriating man I dealt with, as well as the most entertaining and generous.

FWE. Shut the steam valves, knock off the vacuum, and open the drain cocks.

He walked the fine line between genius and madness :)
Brilliant man, he was in his late 30's when he started the Louis conversion onsite management which tells you a lot of his abilities.
