Seems one of Teekays ships has hit Ambrose Light Tower off New York. Pretty large structure obviously visible to radar also equipped with light. Will be interesting to hear the explanation of this one.

Teekay tanker takes out tower

NEW YORK, NY 05 November – Coast Guard officials are investigating how
the Bahamas-flagged tanker Axel Spirit crashed into the 23m-tall Ambrose
Light in lower New York Bay. The incident occurred about 0200 Saturday,
and sources close to the probe suggest that high winds and heavy seas
from Noel, now an extra-tropical cyclone, probably played a part,
although the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
USCG sources told Fairplay yesterday that the agent for the 115,392 dwt,
Teekay-owned and operated vessel, notified authorities of the impact
about 0850 – after the ship was alongside at the Chevron Terminal in
Perth Amboy, New Jersey, but the Coast Guard had already begun
broadcasting notices to mariners that the light was not operating. “The

structure reportedly suffered substantial damage to its legs, stanchion
and the revolving light is bent and no longer rotating,” the USCG said
in a written statement, adding that the cutter Willow has been directed
to install temporary aids to navigation until permanent repairs can be
made. Complete repairs are being delayed by the continuing heavy
weather, the USCG says, pointing to 20-25kt winds and 3.5m seas in the
area. The tanker’s agent reported to the USCG that there were no
injuries or pollution, although a complete evaluation of the vessel was
underway yesterday with USCG inspectors aboard.
