According to coastguards, the ferry crashed into a rock near the shore of Finland's capital city, Helsinki.
Officials explained that the captain had got stuck in the toilet because of a jammed rock, and had yelled for help, but by the time he was freed it was too late for the ferry.
Jan Sundell, head of the investigation, told the Daily Mail: 'He was stuck in the toilet. As soon as the staff member got the door open, it was too late.'
None of the 54 passengers on board were seriously injured, with some suffering bruises.
Coastguards have said they are investigating whether the captain's actions amounted to criminal endangerment.
this has to be a poorly translated article. A jammed rock? Where was it jammed, was he passing a stone, was it jammed under the ship? Captain's actions leading to criminal endangerment, was that urinating? The best part is that the stock photo included was a Silja Lines ferry, even though the article doesn't specifically name the ferry. Reporting at it's best .
