CCGS Amundsen OOS!

Post by Wyatt »

I understand the CCGS Amundsen is out of service. Cracks found on 4 of the 6 main engine blocks. I found cracks on the Alco engine's on board the Laurier. These were repaired using larger gussets and gouging and rewelding. But from what I understand they are looking at re-engining the Amundsen, a very serious endevour. Any news out there? http://www.vancouversun.com/technology/ ... story.html

aging engines, right...bet there is no more then 40,000 hours on them.
The blocks are cracked internally, no gouging there.
I wonder if the scientists will offer any of their windfall to CG to fix it....

I suspect they are waiting on the budget to see if the engines will be fixed.
